Other Activities

1. Awarding of Honors

  Awards are presented to conspicuous research works, technical achievements and papers every year at the General Meeting. The candidates are invited to the awarding through the Institute's periodicals and selected by nominating committee.

 

a) The Japan Petroleum Institute Award

  This award is presented to:

1) those who have conducted invaluable scientific work on petroleum, natural gas, petrochemical industry, or on plant and equipment related to these industries, and have published the achievements, thereby making extraordinary contribution to promotion of academic progress; and
2) those who have conducted technical work in the petroleum, natural gas or petrochemical industry, or of plant and equipment related to these industries, thereby making extraordinary contribution to industrial development.

 

b) The Japan Petroleum Institute Award for Distinguished Papers

  This award is presented to the author of technical papers of excellent value, which are selected from papers published in the "Journal of the Japan Petroleum Institute."

 

c) The Japan Petroleum Institute Award for Technological Progress

  This award is presented to those who have achieved technical developments, improvements in the petroleum, natural gas, petrochemical industry, or in plant and equipment related areas of these industries, thereby rendering outstanding service in promoting technological progress.

 

d) The Japan Petroleum Institute Award for Encouragement of Research and Development

  This award is presented to young researchers or engineers who have published creative achievements in the petroleum, natural gas, petrochemical industry, or of plant and equipment related to these industries. The recipient of this award should be under 40 years old, on April 1st of the year of award.

 

e) The Japan Petroleum Institute Award for Meritorious Service

  This award is presented to those who have rendered distinctive service of merit in promoting the development of the Institute.

 

f) The Japan Petroleum Institute Award for Distinguished Service

  This award is presented to those who have rendered extraordinary services to the attainment of divisional and sectional objectives of the Institute, and the like.

 

 

2. Qualification Approvals

a) Welders' Performance Qualification Examinations and Approvals

  The Institute, jointly with the Japan Welding Association, conducts welders' performance qualification examinations and approves those who are found qualified with a view to securing and upgrading capable, top-quality welders for petroleum and related facilities, thereby contributing to the safety of these facilities and their operation.

 

b) Standard Reference Materials Examination and Approvals

  Standard reference materials are needed to maintain and improve the accuracy of measurements involved in testing petroleum products. The Institute examines and approves the following Standard Reference Materials:

1) Sulfur contained in residual fuel oil
2) Nitrogen contained in residual fuel oil
3) Nickel and Vanadium contained in residual fuel oil
4) Sulfur contained in light oil
5) Hydrocarbon Types in automotive gasoline by GC
6) Hydrocarbon Types in automotive gasoline by FIA (Fluorescent Indicator Absorption)
